Whether you know her as Marla Singer from Fight Club, Mrs. Lovett from Sweeney Todd or Bellatrix Lestrange from Harry Potter, Helena Bonham Carter with her complex characters, dark hair and expressive eyes is hard to miss.
Marc Jacobs does not seem to mind. Rather, he is capitalizing on Helenas penchant for the off-kilter by selecting her as his latest muse. Take, for example, this photo of her wearing a salmon colored dress that looks more or less like a mermaids tail with a hood/hat hybrid, polka dot tights and thick heels.
Somewhat confused? Helena is right there with you.
It made me laugh because I thought it was a joke, she says. But when I saw the article, I thought, Oh, the photos theyve chosen are as bad as the ones they print when Im worst dressed.
Another shot features Helena in a polka dot coat and a mushroom-sized polka dot hat with circles drawn onto her face and hands to imitate chicken pocks.
Whether or not this combination is winning or a fail whale, Helena is going back to her 60s roots in Tim Burtons TV series Dark Shadows and coming-of-age film Toast based on Nigel Slaters memoir. According to IFC News, Emerging Pictures will be teaming up with the Film Society of Lincoln Center and the UK Film Council to bring a group of six acclaimed British films Stateside with Toast on the top of the list.
While exciting news for the production team, Helena herself would have been happy either way.
Im always attracted to lower budget, she says. Not because its lower budget, but because they tend to be better scripts.
You do it for the joy of the part and not necessarily expect anyone to see the final product.
But before you slap hipster on Helenas forehead, check out her classy bright pink reading glasses.
