This October, Reading Glasses Shopper is going pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For us, going pink is about more than adding a little color to our wardrobes four weeks out of the year — it’s a way of life.
Breast cancer is an invasive disease that affects one in eight women. Chances are you even know someone who has been touched by breast cancer, whether it be a friend, co-worker, or family member.
Ranking right behind skin cancer, breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer in women, and for some, it may feel as though its presence is everywhere. That is why this month (and all year long), we ask you to join us in going pink for breast cancer awareness. Whether it be through support, education, or fundraising, every little bit can make a difference.
The best protection against breast cancer is early detection. Ladies, if you’re over the age of 40, be sure to schedule an annual mammogram. Breast cancer is not preventable, but an annual screening is the most effective way to detect breast cancer in its early stages. For those under 40, regular self-examinations and annual clinical checks are strongly recommended.
Whether it be by wearing pink, urging a friend to schedule an annual mammogram, or donating your time, step up and show your support this month. To learn more about National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and ways you can get involved, check out the following resources:
