Father’s day is a day to honor not only our own father but all the fathers in our lives. Many of us may take for granted all that fathers do, so this holiday is a chance to show them just how important they are. Including sons, brothers, cousins, husbands, or friends, use this year’s celebration as an opportunity to do something special with a father.

While there are several ways to celebrate Father’s day, something simple but unique can go a long way. This year, avoid the commercialized gift baskets, crowded restaurants, and the hassle of cooking a large meal by doing something that you may have never done or don’t usually do. Here are some suggestions on how to uniquely celebrate Father’s Day.

1) Take him on a Spa Day

While spa days might not be the most masculine thing in the world, no one can argue they aren’t a relaxing way to spend your day. Make reservations if necessary at the nearest spa or the one of your choice. Nothing will relieve his stress from the years of caring for his children like a full body massage.

2) Take him to a baseball game

Now that baseball season has begun, take him out to a ball game this Father’s Day so he can enjoy one of America’s favorite pastimes. If there are no MLB games close by, try to find a minor league game or go support some local youth baseball! Nothing says Father’s Day like a day at the ballpark.

3) Have a Picnic in the Park

If the weather permits, a picnic in the park is a great alternative to paying for some pricey meal at a crowded restaurant. Take him to the closest park with a blanket and some food from home and set up your picnic in a nice grassy, open area. This is a great way to get some fresh air while spending quality time with him.

4) Go see a drive-in-movie

Although they may be scarce, a drive-in movie theater is a great place to go and enjoy a film. While traditional movie theaters have unbelievably high snack prices, you can bring your own snacks to the drive-in-movie. What he will probably enjoy most is the fact that he doesn’t have to wait until the movie is over to complain out loud!

5) Take him on a scenic drive

Using a quick internet search, you should be able to find a scenic driving route. Let him ride in the passenger seat while you take the wheel and show him the beauty of nature from the comfort of the car. There is nothing he will enjoy more as long as he gets to have control of the radio.
