With the arrival of April, many of us are beginning to plan our Easter meals and get togethers. As we begin to plan our menus and decor, it is tempting to turn to our tried and true recipes and decorations. However, this Easter switch things up at your table with one of these simple recipes or festive DIY decorations. Your guests are sure to be impressed and, who knows, you might just end up having a new staple decoration or recipe!

1. An eye catching place setting

Supplies: Colored napkin, coordinating ribbon, tulip

Directions: To create this warm and welcoming place setting, simply fold the napkin and place the tulip in the center. Finish by loosely tying the ribbon around the tulip and napkin. Not only will guests love being greeted by this piece, but they will also enjoy having a sweet flower to take home.

 

2. Easter bunny bread bowl

Your lunch guests will love this cute easter bunny bread bowl. It’s a creative and easy way to serve up soup or a veggie dish.

Supplies: One regular sized roll (can be store bought or homemade), one bread bowl (can be store bought or homemade), five toothpicks, two regular chocolate chips, pink candy for the nose, knife and kitchen scissors, and fresh parsley (optional)

Directions:

  • Cut 1/4 of the bottom off of the smaller roll, leaving a small back section of the bread on the roll — so it can hang off the back of the bread bowl. This will give it some stability. Set aside.
  • Cut the bread bowl so that you remove a small top section of the roll in a U-shape, leaving a ledge for the smaller roll to sit on.
  • Dig out the insides of the bread in a large piece if possible so you can use some of that insides of the bread bowl for the bunny’s tail.
  • Take the top of the bread bowl you removed and cut out 2 ears. You can trim the inside of the bunny ears so they are flatter.
  • Take the knife and slice a small hole where you want the nose. Push the candy nose in the bread. Poke a tiny hole for the eyes and then gently place the chocolate chip eyes in place.
  • Take the bunny head and place it on top of the bread bowl ledge and secure it in place with three toothpicks.
  • Slide the other two toothpicks into the bottom of the ears and then place them in the top of the roll for the bunny’s ears.
  • Take a small piece of the bread you removed from inside the bowl and roll it into a ball and use it as the bunny’s tail.
  • Use the fresh parsley and laid it down on the plate to serve as grass to add to the fun and festive look!
  • Store in an airtight bag until you are ready to serve. These can be made in advance as long as they are stored properly.


3. Festive centerpiece

This layered candy centerpiece is super easy to make. The best part is that it’s great for decoration and dessert!

Supplies: Clear glass vase, artificial flowers, Easter colored M&M’s (yellows, purples, and pinks), Peep Easter Bunnies, and skewers or cake pop sticks

Directions:

  • Fill the bottom of your vase with M&M’s. Then add a row of white Peep Bunnies.
  • Continue to layer your M&M’s on top of each other in your designated color scheme until you have filled the vase.
  • Once you have arranged the candy the way you want it, add your artificial flowers.
  • Stick a couple of Peep Bunnies on your skewers or cake pop sticks and place them in the arrangement so that they are sticking up out of the flowers.

 

4. Strawberry cream mimosa

This sparkly pink treat is perfect for an Easter brunch and is sure to match all of your Spring decor.

Ingredients: Fresh strawberries or raspberries, Sweet N’ Low, honey, half and half cream, and your favorite type of champagne

Directions:

  • Heat up your strawberries or raspberries on the stovetop until they come to a soupy consistency. Add Sweet N’ Low and a little honey to your fruit mixture.
  • Blend your mixture in a blender. Then pour your blended mixture into a fine mesh strainer to separate the juice from the seeds and the skin.  
  • Pour in half and half cream, stir, and pour your mixture into ice cube trays, and freeze until frozen.
  • Once cubes are frozen set out for about 5-10 minutes to let them soften.
  • Pour champagne halfway up the glass and add strawberry cream cubes. Enjoy!

 

5. Slow cooker pineapple glazed carrots

For the perfect Easter side dish that adds a punch of flavor, try these pineapple glazed carrots.  

Ingredients: 2 lbs carrots peeled and sliced, 1 (540ml) can pineapple tidbits with juice (or about 2 cups), ½ cups brown sugar, 3 Tbsp balsamic vinegar, ¾ tsp. salt, 2 tbsp. cornstarch

Directions:

  • In a medium bowl, combine pineapple with juice, sugar, vinegar, salt, and cornstarch until combined.
  • Add carrots to slow cooker. Pour pineapple over top and stir well.
  • Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or high for 3-4 hours until tender. Serve.
