Our favorite Oscar moments? Watching a star put on a pair of spectacles in order to read the winning envelope. And during this year’s 85th Annual Academy Awards, we had no reading glasses regrets! From Best Supporting Actor winner Christoph Waltz’s frames to presenter Robert Downey Jr.’s usual specs, we were certainly impressed with the reader representation. But for us, Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep made the biggest spectacle of them all.
In case you missed it, take a peek at their Oscar reader choices, and learn where to steal a pair inspired by these famous faces.
Heeeeeere’s Johnny! Jack sported not one, but two different frames at the Oscars. At his seat, he wore a pair of his usual sports sunglasses, which hid his eyes during the show — and made him look undoubtedly cool and important like always. Before taking the stage to announce Argo as Best Picture winner, alongside First Lady Michelle Obama, Jack turned up the charm with a pair of handsome thick-framed readers.
Meryl is a reoccuring obsession here in the office, as noted in our Oscar recap from last year. Then again, who doesn’t love her? Meryl took the stage to announce Daniel Day-Lewis as the Best Actor winner for his title role in Lincoln. (Wasn’t her sequined ensemble absolutely amazing!?) Although she didn’t exactly read the envelope on camera, we couldn’t help but notice the timeless pair of reading glasses she held in her right hand. Sparkles and all, we could have seen her in some matching silver specs, too!
