Today is National Book Lovers Day, which ranks up there with Christmas morning for us bibliophiles. To celebrate, we are bringing you a list of our favorite reads and giving you permission to slip away to your favorite reading spot and escape into a good book.

In case you need suggestions for reading material, here are 5 books we think you’ll enjoy:

“On Becoming Fearless…In Love, Work, and Life”

In her book, “On Becoming Fearless…In Love, Work, and Life,” author, syndicated columnist, and business woman Arianna Huffington empowers women to become bold from the inside out.  Huffington examines the ways in which fear affects the lives of women, and the steps anyone can take to conquer fear.

“Hidden Figures”

This #1 New York Times bestseller tells the amazing true story of the black female mathematicians at NASA whose calculations helped win the space race. Before John Glenn orbited the earth, or Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, a group of dedicated female mathematicians known as “human computers” used pencils, slide rules and adding machines to calculate the numbers that would launch rockets, and astronauts, into space.

“Hidden Figures” chronicles these women’s careers over nearly three decades as they faced challenges, forged alliances, and used their intellect to change their own lives, and their country’s future.

“Present Over Perfect”

In “Present over Perfect” you’ll be invited to consider the landscape of your own life, and what it might look like to leave behind the pressure to be perfect and begin the life-changing practice of simply being present, in the middle of the mess and the ordinariness of life.

Author Shauna Niequist pens a collection of essays focused on the most important transformation in her life, and maybe yours too: leaving behind busyness and frantic living and rediscovering the person you were made to be.

“The Nest”

“The Nest” is a novel about the Plumb siblings who are waiting for their inheritance (affectionately called the nest) to be dispersed once the youngest sister turns 40. The nest has been growing exponentially since their father’s untimely death when they were all adolescents, and each one of the Plumbs has been making poor financial decisions in the hopes of being bailed out by the nest.

This is a story about the power of family, the possibilities of friendship, the ways we depend upon one another and the ways we let one another down. In her debut novel, author Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney brings a remarkable cast of characters to life to spotlight what money does to relationships, what happens to our ambitions over the course of time, and the fraught yet unbreakable ties we share with those we love.

“Lilac Girls”

“Lilac Girls” is inspired by the life of a real World War II heroine as it follows the lives of three women: New York socialite Caroline Ferriday, Polish teenager Kasia Kuzmerick, and German doctor Herta Oberheuser. These three women are set on a collision course when the unthinkable happens and Kasia is sent to Ravensbrück, the notorious Nazi concentration camp for women. Their stories cross continents—from New York to Paris, Germany, and Poland—as Caroline and Kasia strive to bring justice to those whom history has forgotten.

Author Martha Hall Kelly reveals the power of unsung women to change history in their quest for love, freedom, and second chances.
