If you’re into reading thrillers that include compelling mysteries, a touch of romance, and even political viewpoints, then you’ve probably already read the Stieg Larsson series of international bestsellers: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest. The (originally Swedish) books follow the stories of socially inept, yet powerful heroine and computer hacker extraordinaire Lisbeth Salander and middle-aged talented investigative journalist, Mikael Blomkvist as they solve murder mysteries and fight battles of their own.

These books are page turners so if you haven’t read them yet, be sure to block out a lot of time when you get to it. I read the first one on my Kindle when I was in France and found myself searching for cafés providing free Wifi so I could download the next two…while I was in Europe for crying out loud! They’re that good. Swedish films have been made of the series, but there is a remake of the first film due to come out this December that will star Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara as Mikael and Lisbeth, respectively.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie poster

I’m excited for the movie. I think Mara looks perfect for her role, but what do you think about Daniel Craig? I kind of pictured a more nerdy, yet distinguished man (sexy in some way) wearing glasses kind of like The Reporter. You can’t always get what you want, I suppose. I’m still going to see the movie and I’m sure Craig will find a way to make the role work (as he always does). What do you think? Have you read the series and will you see the movie?
