How to discover your Reading Glasses Power

Using a printable diopter eading test card

If you're purchasing reading glasses online, you can use our printable diopter chart. With the printed sheet 14" away, attempt to read the top line without reading glasses. Continue down the chart until you find a line you can read clearly without your glasses on – this is the diopter (power/magnification) you need.

Test various reading magnifications

Prescriptions for reading glasses increase by 0.25 diopters, such as +1.00, +1.25, +1.50, and so on. However, for simplicity, some diopter charts may increase by 0.50 or by the whole number. Start by trying on reading glasses in the power that your test results yielded. You'll want to test out several pairs that are both weaker and stronger than your test results. Narrow it down to two magnifications — both of which you see well with — and always choose the lower of the two powers.
*The power selected will apply to all the pairs inside the multipack.

Reviews

My Wife loves them, so

"My Wife loves them, so for the glasses though they didn't work out for me, thankfully she's very happy with then. I use the word "thankfully" because I started to return them because they didn't work for me. Your return process is extremely frustrating. I might try a another pair and hopefully they'll work out."

Glasses are great, service spotty.

"Glasses are great, service spotty. Called immediately after order showed wrong shipping address. Told change of address not possible but she’d CANCEL the order. I depended on that & reordered. Two shipments of the same order followed. Not worth trouble to return, but NOT confident of your service in future. Sent this msg already only to get mailbox Full reply. Really????"

I love these bifocal sunglasses.

"I love these bifocal sunglasses. They are light weight stay on my face perfectly and feel like they were made just for me. The spring hinges keep them in place and don't slip or fall off so I would recommend these glasses to everyone who's looking for new sunglasses. Annette"

Not helpful for driving

"The reading area is too small to allow you to read the screen where the driving directions are displayed. I bought them for driving so I am disappointed."

— Mary D. (2/5)

I’m not a fan because

"I’m not a fan because they are advertised as a bifocal but really are NOT. The top is clear for 20-20 far vision - but - the bifocal part intended for near vision fills up the bottom and part of the middle of the lens which is too far up the lens which blurs your vision. The bifocal itself should be lower. I’ve requested a full refund from Readers since I can’t see properly with these eyeglasses."
