How to discover your Reading Glasses Power

Using a printable diopter eading test card

If you're purchasing reading glasses online, you can use our printable diopter chart. With the printed sheet 14" away, attempt to read the top line without reading glasses. Continue down the chart until you find a line you can read clearly without your glasses on – this is the diopter (power/magnification) you need.

Need more help?
Test various reading magnifications

Prescriptions for reading glasses increase by 0.25 diopters, such as +1.00, +1.25, +1.50, and so on. However, for simplicity, some diopter charts may increase by 0.50 or by the whole number. Start by trying on reading glasses in the power that your test results yielded. You'll want to test out several pairs that are both weaker and stronger than your test results. Narrow it down to two magnifications — both of which you see well with — and always choose the lower of the two powers.

Reviews

These are specifically advertised as

"These are specifically advertised as anti-glare/anti-reflective. They are nothing of the sort. Completely false advertising. I could buy these readers for far less elsewhere and the only reason I bought these is for the anti-glare properties. Total waste of money. When I tried to return using the instructions on the returns page to email them first, my email was returned as address unknown. This is not a serious company. They do not care about customer trust or customer service."

— SARA F. (1/5)

Nice readers

"I like the strength and the construction of the glasses, but it doesn't seem to do much in the way of blue light blocking, at least I'm not able to discern much of a difference. I believe the listing does say that the blue light is blocked at 30%, and because of years of intense computer work it could be the sensitivity of my eyes to blue light is the reason. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase."

"I love the look & the size of the readers, BUT I am NOT sure I was sent the CORRECT magnification. . . I ordered 2. 50 ( which is what all my other reading glasses are, INCLUDING the CURRENT FRANCIS BLUE LIGHT READERS I am using). . . But, these do NOT seem to magnify the same way"

Two pairs, blue and red

"These are ok but the $1. 50 store has similar glasses and about the same quality. The blue pair is more aqua than blue so I am kind of disappointed about that as well. Also, as soon as i ordered these you sent me an email that I could have gotten two for the price of one."
