Writing: A Lesson on How to Start

where to start when writing

Here at the RGS office, we love writing as much as we love reading and crafting. From DIY note taking frames to jotting down the latest in spring  glasses trends, typing away at the keyboard all day makes us endlessly happy. Especially when our content makes you happy, too :)

With a degree in English Writing and a job where I produce content frequently, writing is without a doubt my favorite part of the day. I get a lot of questions from the skeptics in my life about my daily duties. How do I come up with new ideas all the time? Where do I find the courage to begin?

It all starts with having confidence in yourself and your creative abilities.

The truth is, I don’t really have this master secret formula that I use every time I write. Yes, I learned a million-and-two things in classes on ways to better it, but for beginners, writing doesn’t always have to be this long-thought-out process.

Sometimes, all it takes is a blank page, a pen/keyboard (whichever you prefer), and simply letting your thoughts flow into a stream of consciousness. I know, I know, there are plenty of people who would rather read a good book than take a second to jot down a reflection on their day.

But, you’d be surprised at what you’re capable of, and you never know until you try! Here is my selection of easy-to-use writing prompts to help get you started:

Now go throw on a lovely pair of readers, grab a cup of jo, and begin. It’s as easy as that!
